No Crowds:
During normal times, without Covid, Venice is awash with tourists. So many in fact, visitors are deterred from visiting or returning to the City. Avoid the crowds by staying in one of the five outer neighborhoods, called Sestiere. Our favorite Sestiere is Dorsoduro and its world famous museums and fine restaurants. That is why we call it Easy Dorsoduro. Quintessential Venetian scenes characterize this much loved part of the City. One can really enjoy the easy living ambiance of its many cafes, bars and shops. The area is close to the City’s major attractions without the pressing mass of tourists day and night. It is located in the southern part of the City.
Hotel not Needed:
Better yet, don’t stay in a hotel. They are usually very expensive. Rent an apartment instead. We use a site called Views on Venice to find suitable accommodations. Our favorite apartment is on the top floor of a restored 15th century palazzo. The apartment overlooks the Grand Canal. Truly Easy Dorsoduro living.
Enjoy with the Locals:
Many of the available Dorsoduro apartments have multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, plus kitchens. They are perfect for families or couples traveling together. There are many great restaurants nearby too. A very small, but favorite local restaurant is the Osteria Enoteca Ai Artisti. Frequent trips to a local tavern or wine bar is a must too. Mingle with the locals by checking out one of the local wine bars such as Cantine del Vino gia Schiavi. Not only do they have a reasonably priced inventory of wine but they serve an assortment of fresh hors d’oeuvres.
